BCMB Excellence and Inclusivity in Biochemistry Seminar Series

The UGA Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is proud to announce the Excellence and Inclusivity in Biochemistry Seminar series. This series provides talented senior postdoctoral fellows from diverse backgrounds a stage to present their research and network with faculty, postdocs, and students. 


Senior Postdoctoral Fellows studying any aspect of biochemistry, molecular biology and biochemistry education are invited to apply for the Excellence and Inclusivity in Biochemistry Seminar. Applications from all are welcome and encouraged from members of historically underrepresented groups or from those researching health disparities. The BCMB departmental Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee and will select two applicants per year who will be invited to visit the university in person. During the visit, the invited speakers will present a departmental research seminar and meet with faculty, postdocs, and students. The applicants will also be provided the opportunity to receive feedback in a chalk talk covering their future research plans and pedagogy philosophy. The department will cover travel expenses and lodging. The goals of the Excellence and Inclusivity in Biochemistry Seminar are i) to provide talented senior postdoctoral fellows from diverse backgrounds a platform to highlight their research and practice interviews for future positions, and ii) foster and promote the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in science and research.

The application Deadline is April 15, 2024. Seminars are expected to be held in Sept/Oct 2024.

Describe your current research accomplishments in an abstract format.


2. Contributions to Diversity (250 words max)

Describe your efforts to increase the diversity of thoughts, experiences and cultural backgrounds in science. A few potential contributions may include: mentorship of under-represented minorities, sharing your success as a person from an under-represented group, developing programming to promote retention in STEM disciplines, or a wide array of other efforts.


3. Independent Research Direction (250 words max)

Describe your vision for your future independent laboratory.


4. CV (five pages max)
