Research Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Dr. Travis' current research involves the determination of the
biochemical basis for the development of pulmonary emphysema,
including the role of plasma proteinase inhibitors, neutrophil
and mast cell proteinases, and connective tissue proteins in
abnormal lung turnover. In addition, projects are also being
continued which involve the role of proteolytic enzymes and
inhibitors in the development of rheumatoid arthritis and
periodontitis. Dr. Travis has served on study sections of
NIH and his research is supported by an NIH Merit Award. He is
on the editorial board of Journal of Biological Chemistry
and he has been a Career Development Awardee of the NIH.
