Adobe Acrobat Documents -- How can I create Adobe Acrobat documents?
The standard method of creating the .pdf file is to do so using Adobe Acrobat software. In order to do this you will need the full Acrobat package, not just the free reader. This is available either directly from Adobe or you can purchase a CD / License directly from MSD.

However, a free program: Ghostscript, can create the .pdf file as effectively as Acrobat. Ghostscript is available for free download for Windows, Macintosh and Unix. It is easy to install. It is recommended that Windows users also install GSView, the graphical interface to Ghostscript. GSView can be downloaded from the same site and should be installed after Ghostscript is installed. You can download both Ghostscript and GSView from Aladdin Ghostscript site.

Special Note for Mac OS X users: you can now print directly to a pdf (Adobe Acrobat) file without the need of any additional software.
